Breast Enlargement (Augmentation) with Saline Breast Implants

The Plastic Surgery Center in Glastonbury serving Hartford and the New Haven, Connecticut area offers breast enlargement, or breast augmentation, to help women with small, asymmetrical, or disproportionate breasts, creating a more attractive figure. Our Connecticut practice offers breast implants in various sizes and shapes to meet your specific desires and to best fit your shape. The size and shape used will depend upon the amount of loose skin you have, what shape, and how large you choose to be. The use of saline breast implants is a relatively safe, standard and accepted plastic surgical procedure for either cosmetic or reconstructive purposes. Millions of women have undergone breast enlargement surgery since 1961.

At The Plastic Surgery Center, serving those in Glastonbury, Hartford and the New Haven area, breast implants are placed above or below the pectoral muscle depending on the desired results and anatomy of the patient. In either placement, breast augmentation does not interfere with nursing or breast exams. Patients interested in breast implants may be flat chested, under developed, unevenly developed, or have breasts that look "deflated" after having children. Breast enlargement makes breasts fuller and gives them a more natural, normal, and youthful appearance. Breast Lift

Many breast surgery patients who first visit our practice in Glastonbury serving Hartford and the New Haven area inquire about breast lift surgery. Often these women are mothers looking to restore the shape and feel of their breasts before they gave birth.

Pregnancy, nursing, and the effects of time can all cause a woman's breasts to sag and lose their shape. Breast lift is a procedure that can help restore a more youthful shape to your figure. It can also be used to reduce the size of the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple) when necessary. At our practice in Glastonbury serving Hartford and the New Haven area, breast lift surgery typically begins with an anchor-shape incision that extends from the areola along the natural curve of the breast. Your skin is then tightened and the nipple repositioned higher on the breast. In some cases, breast lift can be combined with augmentation using breast implants if the patient so desires. Breast lift can be an effective way to improve your figure and create a more youthful silhouette. Contact our office serving Glastonbury, Hartford, and the New Haven area to learn more about breast lift.

Breast Reduction

In addition to breast lift and breast enlargement surgery, Connecticut plastic surgeon Dr. Bruce Burnham also specializes in breast reduction. Women with large breasts often suffer from back, neck, and shoulder pain. Some may also feel uncomfortable about their proportions. Breast reduction surgery is an excellent option for many women with large breasts. The procedure typically uses an anchor-shaped incision, which circles the areola (the dark area around the nipple) before extending down and across the natural crease of the breast. Through this incision, excess fat, skin, and tissue are removed. In some cases, liposuction may be used in this procedure. The nipple is then repositioned, then skin tightened, and the incision closed. Breast reduction surgery can be a highly effective way to improve appearance while decreasing the painful complications large breasts can cause. In some cases, medical insurance will even pay for part or all of the procedure.

What makes today's silicone a safe option?

In 1992, the FDA called for a voluntary moratorium (delay) on the use of silicone gel-filled breast implants until new safety information could be thoroughly reviewed by the FDA's advisory panel. That same year, the FDA lifted this moratorium and announced its decision to allow access to silicone gel-filled breast implants for reconstruction patients under controlled clinical studies, called Adjunct Studies. Learn more about Allergan's Adjunct Study. In 1999, the FDA allowed the use of silicone gel-filled breast implants in Allergan's Core Clinical Study to assess the safety and effectiveness of these devices.
